Australia has some of the most active social media users in the world. On average 17 million Australians use Facebook or Instagram each month and they average roughly 3 hours 40 min per platform per month.
The influencing power and targeting capabilities of these platforms tends to make news for all the wrong reasons (US Elections & Brexit being 2 of the higher profile cases).

Social media advertising
Social media advertising (AKA paid social or dark posts) involves paying for ads on social media. This can include images, carousels and video. Ads on Facebook and other social platforms are bought via an auction (with some similarities to Google).
