Q2 2025 Truck Trailer & Small Trailer Market Report

Q2 2025 Truck Trailer & Small Trailer Market Report

The Register of Approved Vehicles (RAV) continues to provide valuable insights into Australia’s trailer market, tracking which manufacturers are actively securing regulatory approval to supply the Australian market. For Q2 2025, we’re pleased to present our second edition of the Truck Trailer & Small Trailer Market Report, though with an important caveat: the RAV has only recently begun publishing detailed manufacturer-level data for trailers, meaning we don’t yet have Q2 2024 comparison figures available.

As such, this report serves as a snapshot of the current market landscape rather than a year-on-year analysis. The figures presented here reflect regulatory approvals for Q2 2025 and will establish our baseline for future quarterly comparisons. While we cannot yet identify growth trends or market shifts, the data does reveal which manufacturers are securing the largest volumes of approvals and how market share is distributed across the sector.

The RAV, maintained under the Road Vehicle Standards Act 2018 (RVSA), includes vehicles approved for supply to the Australian market, whether new or used. It is important to note that inclusion on the RAV reflects regulatory approval, not actual sales. As such, a vehicle may be registered on the RAV without being sold immediately, or even at all. Despite this limitation, RAV data offers valuable insight into which brands and models are actively entering the market and serves as a useful proxy for supply-side activity and manufacturer output.

In this report, we break down the Q2 2025 figures for truck trailers and small trailers, identifying the leading manufacturers and examining market concentration across both segments.

A Note on Methodology

Due to the profusion of small-scale manufacturers active in both the truck trailer and small trailer segments, and the proportion of the market they account for, it was impractical to list every minor manufacturer individually. Consequently, we decided to categorise these small manufacturers under the broad title of ‘Other makes’, with the top 10 manufacturers in each segment reserved for large, notable brands.

Truck Trailers

Q2 2025 saw 4,016 truck trailer entries recorded on the Register of Approved Vehicles, with the top 10 named manufacturers accounting for 54.2% of total approvals. The remaining 45.8% fell under ‘Other makes’, highlighting the fragmented nature of the Australian truck trailer market where numerous smaller or specialist manufacturers continue to play a significant role.

Top Five Manufacturers

Vawdrey led the truck trailer segment with 406 RAV entries, capturing 10.1% of total approvals. The Victorian manufacturer’s position at the top reflects its established presence in the heavy commercial trailer market, particularly in refrigerated and dry freight applications.

Maxitrans followed in second place with 293 entries, representing 7.3% of the market. The South Australian manufacturer maintains strong representation across multiple trailer categories, from drop deck and flat top to refrigerated and curtainsider configurations.

Bruce Rock Engineering secured third position with 175 approvals, accounting for 4.4% of total entries. The Western Australian manufacturer’s strong showing demonstrates the strength of regional producers in serving both local and national markets.

Jamieson claimed fourth place with 158 entries and a 3.9% market share. The Queensland-based manufacturer’s solid performance reflects its continued focus on heavy-duty trailer solutions for the transport and logistics sector.

AAA Trailers completed the top five with 117 approvals, representing 2.9% of the market, establishing itself as a notable player in the segment.

The Rest of the Top 10

FWR secured sixth place with 101 entries and a 2.5% market share, whilst Lionel Moore and Krueger both recorded 98 approvals, each capturing 2.4% of total entries. Their equal positioning reflects similar levels of market activity in the heavy commercial space.

Howard Porter followed with 82 entries and a 2% share, whilst Haulmark Trailers rounded out the top 10 with 81 approvals, also representing 2% of the market, completing the list of leading named manufacturers in the truck trailer segment.

Market Fragmentation and the Role of 'Other Makes'

The ‘Other makes’ category accounted for 45.8% of all truck trailer approvals in Q2 2025, representing a substantial portion of the market. This significant share underscores the fragmented nature of Australia’s truck trailer sector, where numerous smaller manufacturers, custom builders, and specialist producers continue to meet diverse industry requirements across regional markets and specific applications.

Small Trailers

The small trailer segment recorded 31,563 entries on the Register of Approved Vehicles in Q2 2025. Interestingly, whilst the top 10 named manufacturers by volume account for a significant portion of approvals, ‘Other makes’ dominates the market share rankings at 48.1%, reflecting the highly fragmented nature of this segment.

Top Five Manufacturers

Stonegate Industries led the small trailer segment with 3,444 RAV entries, capturing 10.9% market share. The Victorian manufacturer’s position at the top reflects its strong presence across multiple small trailer categories and distribution networks.

Victorian Trailers secured second place with 2,398 approvals, representing 7.6% of the market. Despite the name similarity with the segment leader, Victorian Trailers has carved out its own significant presence in the Australian small trailer landscape.

Century Trailers claimed third position with 1,438 entries and a 4.6% market share, demonstrating solid representation in the competitive small trailer market.

Telwater Trailers followed with 1,326 approvals, accounting for 4.2% of total entries. The New South Wales manufacturer’s position reflects its established presence in marine and utility trailer applications.

The Bigman Trailers rounded out the top five with 721 entries, representing 2.3% of the market. The brand’s strong showing indicates significant manufacturing activity in the small trailer space.

The Rest of the Top 10

Dunbier matched The Bigman Trailers’ market share at 2.3% with 715 approvals, maintaining its established position in the marine trailer segment where it has built strong brand recognition.

Balance Trailers secured seventh place with 646 entries and a 2% share, whilst Coastmac Trailers followed with 587 approvals, representing 1.9% of the market.

Superior Trailer Parts recorded 525 entries and a 1.7% market share, whilst MW Manufacturing completed the top 10 by volume with 499 approvals, representing approximately 1.6% of total entries.

Market Fragmentation and the Role of 'Other Makes'

The ‘Other makes’ category dominates the small trailer segment, accounting for 48.1% of all approvals in Q2 2025. This substantial share, larger than any individual manufacturer, underscores the highly fragmented nature of Australia’s small trailer market. The dominance of ‘Other makes’ reflects the continued importance of smaller manufacturers, custom builders, and importers who serve niche markets, regional demand, and specialised applications across the diverse Australian small trailer landscape.
